Medical genetics is a rapidly growing field which has not been taken up seriously in India. The paucity of medical practitioners with the required knowledge of medical genetics generated the urgent need for a course for training doctors of today to fill this gap. A large number of genetic laboratories will be required to be set up in order to meet the increasing demand of genetic investigations, and skilled personnel will be necessary to manage these laboratories.
