Objective - To impart hands-on training coupled with requisite theory in a single module from the entire course with a few weeks duration. These workshops will benefit those who wish to learn new skills in a short period to time.

Workshop options -

Cytogenetics - preparation & staining of chromosomes from peripheral blood, identification of the chromosomes and arranging a karyotype.

Molecular Diagnostics - PCR - isolation of human genomic DNA, setting up a PCR reaction, agarose gel electrophoresis and interpretation of the results.

Metabolic genetics - diagnosis of prototypical inborn errors of metabolism using laboratory investigations like spot tests, thin layer chromatography, electrophoresis, enzyme estimations, etc.

Genetic counseling - Principles and ethics of counseling. counseling in different scenarios like prenatal, premarital, etc. genetic counseling for some prototypical disorders (chromosomal, autosomal, sex linked), case discussions.

Duration - 1 week for each workshop.

Eligibility - Minimum eligibility criterion is a bachelor's degree in any field of science. Those pursuing their B.Sc. can also avil of these short term courses.
